How about a fly to a beautiful place and enjoy spa in a hot springs. Then take a short flight to the best Mexican food you can find in the US (and the airport and restaurant is just 100 feet away from Mexican border). This was exactly what we have done.
We highly recommend this trip, especially the Rosa's Plane Food at Calexico airport. We all agree this is the best Mexican food we ever ate in the entire Southern California!
Here is how:
You fly to L54 and arrive around 10AM, you walk up the hills and toward the campers parked in the Agua Caliente State park (following the paths people walked in the middle of the desert park. Or, you can walk the long way along the road to the front gate and up), you will find a swimming pool and a huge indoor hot spring jacuzzi pool in 10 minutes slow walk (in a really beautiful surrounding). Have a nice spa there in a cold day. If the park ranger come to checking (and you did not go through the front gate), just pay him/her $5 per person, otherwise, don't worry. Then, take a shower and change and walk back to your plane, do a short fly to KCXL and enjoy the best MX food we ever experienced.
